[Review & Playthrough] Defy Gravity Extended
Defy Gravity Extended was one of the first games I bought during a Steam sale, and it costed me a few cents. Usually the games that are that cheap vary from being subpar to being complete crap, but Defy Gravity managed to be the exception of the rule. Surprised? Then keep reading to know why it's good (or if you prefer you can watch the following video, which is the first part of my playthrough)
Defy Gravity puts us in the shoes of Kara, a Samus-like gravitymancer who attemps to surpass The Gauntlet, and to do so she must use her weapon to alter gravity and manage to avoid the different obstacles she'll find on her way.
At first glance it looks fairly generic and graphics-wise it could have been done better, yet it's game-mechanics are what make this game good. In it you can create gravitational fields that either push you away or sucks you in to clear any obstacle that's in the way. They also affect all the golden objects you can find thorough the game. There's a golden shuriken coming your way? Get it away from you with the anti-gravity well. You need that golden platform that's too far from you? Worry not, use the gravity well and it'll be right next to you. Of course this has it's limitations: For starters you can't shoot more than 2 wells of each kind while in midair (unless you step on a floating marble) and any well you've previously shot will dissapear as soon as you shoot a new one of the same kind. By the way, there's no life counter so you can try to pass those tricky parts as much as you need.
Another good aspect of the game is it's soundtrack. All of it's tracks are really soothing which helps to prevent players to get frustrated. After all you'll die a lot in this game. I personally like all but one of the tracks.
As I mentioned before, the graphics could have been better. The main character's design, while not bad, is not very attractive and there's a very little variety of enemies. I must admit the backgrounds and the effects of the wells are really good (and you can even use them as a background for your Steam account!)
Overall, I would recommend this game. It's perfect to kill some time since it's fairly short, it's really entertaining if not a bit rage-inducing, and without discounts it's as expensive as a bottle of cola.

[Review] Hatoful Boyfriend
Today is Valentine's Day, a day in which most people go out to a restaurant with their significant other; buy chocolates, flowers or other things for them; or just watch a romantic movie; there's also the ones that prefer to play visual novels and dating sims. We decided to review Hatoful Boyfriend becuase not only it's a game fitting for the date but it also has a fairly unique concept. Want to know more about it? then continue reading.
Hatoful Boyfriend is an otome visual novel in which we take the role of a girl (or a boy depending on how you name the main character) who has just enrolled into the prestigious St. PigeoNation Institute and, as time passes, our character would find love among their peers. So far nothing seems out of the ordinary, right? Well, things take a turn for the weird as soon as you realize you're the only human who's attending the school and all your classmates and staff are pigeons. Yes, pigeons. Of course each bird will have their own distinctive personality. You have the snobby one, the timid one and the creepy doctor, among others. The game also gives you the chance to see their human personas in their profile, which is a nice touch.
Regarding the story, at first glance it seems goofy given the premise and the fact it's a pigeon dating sim, but as soon as you start playing through the different routes you start learning little by little about the world and you realize that deep within it's actually an emotive story. It also has an extra route which is unlocked once you finish the rest of the routes and it's then when it abandons all it's inherent silliness and you get a better insight on the world and why the pigeons behave like they do.
On another note, the soundtrack of the game is decent, neither bad nor good. Though some tracks get a bit repetitive over time. Also it'd have been a nice touch if the game was voiced.
Would I recommend this game? I'd do so to any fan of visual novels given it's uniqueness and good storytelling, but anybody who's not used to this kind of game might find it a bit too weird.

| Though I wonder whether the human form or the birdie is the creepiest of the two. |

| Quite a fitting name, isn't it? |
